5 Tips for Camera Acting

camera acting tips by Instant Theatre Berlin

This video explore simple camera acting tips, and it’s more a technical video about how to look good on camera than a proper technical acting video; but the two things are often going side by side when acting on camera. In this video every time we’re going to say that you look good, or you look beautiful, we don’t really refer to your real looks, but just to the way you look on camera! These are two separate concepts, the way you look as opposed to the way you look on camera. Everyone is beautiful, just as everyone has the potential to look good on camera. Just as everyone can act! 🙂

Watch the video on Youtube to learn how to “control” your appearance: how to know your looks, the shape of your face, the effect your hair create on your face. Get in front of the camera and get acquainted with the front view of your face, then the profile. After this you’ll have a general idea of your frontal appearance, and then get to the most important part of the video!

Know your angles! This is crucial and probably the main reason while most people think they do not look good on camera. The camera lens is filming you at an angle, so it’s vital for you to identify the angle of your face that looks best. We all have some good angles, so we all have the chance to look good on camera. It’s just a matter of exploration. Go watch the video in order to see some clear examples of that.

I encourage you to think that the camera is just an instrument recording the present moment. Try to stay in the present moment as much as you can. A great benefit of the camera is that there will always be the chance to do another take, you’ll always have the chance to repeat, and this is something you don’t experience in live acting! So you should really relax and enjoy the opportunity of looking at your best.
