Acting fundamentals 2019 – Summer intensive course (in English) – 2nd Edition

Switch off your brain: from October 2017

Monday to Friday, July 8-July 12 2019

Instant Theatre Berlin presents the 2nd Edition of our intensive summer course aimed at exploring the fundamental acting principles. What are the basics that govern the actor’s performance? What are the 5 basic skills that an actor has to know in order to make an impression on the audience and to give reality to her performance?

This course will give you a chance to work on your stage presence in relation to other actors, your surrounding stage reality, and the audience. We will be focusing on practices that promote full body awareness and mindfulness, encouraging you to follow your internal creative impulses and “own” your performance in its full authenticity.

In each of our intensive sessions (4h/day), we will be working with practices that connect body, voice and mind, and use exercises that hone your creativity by deeply rooting your physical, mental and emotional presence in the moment. We will use scripts and dialogues to help us out in the process. Here’s the focus of the daily sessions:

Day #1: Listening
Day #2: Creation
Day #3: Emotion
Day #4: Improvisation
Day #5: Training & Presentation

Improvisational Comedy: Play to Live, Live to Play with Brian Kapell

April 28 – June 16, Sundays (4.30 pm-7 pm)

Brian Kapell- Improv comedy workshop
Brian Kapell, co-founder of ComedySportz

Learn how to live a funnier, funnier life by playing Improvisational Comedy in a relaxed and supportive space. In this 8-week class we focus on developing trust in yourself and others, story-telling and structure, building an improv vocabulary and teamwork. Become more expressive, confident, and positively playful, as you learn the concepts of improvisation and apply them to the games of short-form improvisation: how to build a story, how to develop character, use of space and pantomime, finding the ‘game’ of a scene, developing a group-mind, playing with status, making spontaneous choices, taking risks and having fun. At the end of the 8-week session, students will perform a show for an invited audience of friends. Meets once a week for 2 1/2 hours per session!

Shakespeare now: An introduction to performing the bard – 10 weeks advanced course

english shakespeare course berlin
Shakespeare NOW acting course

Course: February 12 – April 16, 2019 (Tuesdays)
Shows: Thursday April 18, 2019

Instant Theatre Berlin presents Shakespeare NOW!
In this 10-week course we will look at how an actor can find a sense of fun and play in bringing these very old Shakespeare texts to life.

We will learn how to understand and analyze Shakespeare’s use of Elizabethan English as well as how to recite in iambic pentameter (a form of verse used by Shakespeare in his plays)

Over the 10 weeks each student will build a character based on a monologue either dramatic/tragic, comedic or romantic as well as developing a spoken soliloquy as a group.

In this time we will play with different ways of building characters for rehearsing, staging and performing Shakespeare texts.

The workshop will end in a rehearsed performance.

LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY
Please be warned! While native English is not essential to take this course, be advised that it requires a high level of English. Please don’t hesitate to contact us for any questions about this.

Please as part of your application note if you would like to do a comedic, tragic, dramatic, or romantic text, or if you had something you particularly wanted to try. We’d like to decide on most texts before the first class.
