ALL ABOUT OUR FILM ACTING WORKSHOP
Instant Theatre Berlin is pleased to offer a new edition of our Film Acting Weekend Workshop: a focused 2-day introduction to the specific world of acting on camera.
This intensive format is designed for people who already have some experience with acting, theatre, or stage performance, and who want to explore how acting changes when the camera is involved. During the workshop, we’ll work on the essential techniques of camera acting, while also looking at the small details, adjustments, and practical tools that can make a performance more effective on screen.
By the end of the workshop, each participant will receive a professionally filmed copy of their monologue, which can be used for their acting reel.
Structure and teaching style
At the start of the 2-day workshop, we’ll introduce the main principles of acting for the camera and explore them through clear, practical examples. After that, it will be your turn to step in front of the lens.
Each participant will perform a 1-minute monologue of their choice on camera. We’ll then give feedback, make adjustments, and work through the piece several times, trying different directions, approaches, and styles.
Throughout the workshop, we’ll be supported by a camera professional, and participants will be able to observe the details of each performance on a TV screen connected directly to the camera.
The workshop will include both performance moments — acting your scenes on camera — and observation moments, where you’ll watch and learn from the work of the other participants.
Later on the first day, you’ll rehearse a short two-person scene, which will be performed on camera during the second day. At the end of the workshop, we’ll record the monologues again, and each participant will receive a professionally filmed version of their monologue for possible use in their acting reel. As an additional benefit, participants will also receive two professionally taken headshots, which they can use for their professional reel, portfolio, or actor book.
The workshop is entirely in English and will take place at our venue, 800A in Berlin, Germany.

Our camera acting exercises and on-set practice formats are regularly updated, and the content is adapted to the needs of each new group. At the same time, the core idea behind our work remains the same: everyone can act, because acting is a natural ability, but the camera asks for precision, presence, and awareness of very small details. With the right guidance, everyone can learn how to adjust their performance for the screen, feel more comfortable in front of the lens, and communicate clearly through subtle choices.
This workshop is designed for actors with some previous experience. Usually, participants should have completed at least our First Steps in Acting program, or have equivalent acting experience. Camera acting is a different discipline from stage acting, and it can bring a bit more pressure on the performer, so it is helpful to already have some familiarity with expressing different attitudes, intentions, and emotional states.
TRAINERS and STAFF
Alex Casadio, acting instructor, director and founder of Instant Theatre Berlin. He will be responsible for the acting part and for leading the Weekend Film Acting Workshop.
Shaurya Mishra will be “the man behind the camera” at the workshop and will direct the actors for the final filming of their pieces. A filmmaker and photographer from India, Shaurya is active as a film director and director of photography for artistic and corporate video productions in Berlin.

NO. This program is reserved to people with previous acting experience. You’ll need to take our First Steps in Acting course first.
YES. A big part of our initial work is focused on allowing you to get rid of your expressive blocks. We’ll work around the personal difficulties that we all have, so you’re definitely welcome to join and you’ll be in for a good experience.
NO. The program is only 2-day long, so when you sign up you’ll have to make sure you can attend both days. You can also come by at our venue in Berlin Wedding and see some of our shows. In short: we’ll bring the quality and the expertise, but you will have bring the commitment from the start to the end of the project.
YES, as long as you prepare a monologue that is confortable enough to play and well memorised. Our participants come from all over the world and it’s not unusual for us in a group of 10 people to have 8-9 different nationalities (and accents) on board. It’s part of the nature of what we do, and we are proud of that!
YES. Acting addresses many of these aspects naturally and in a creative way, so at the end of the course you’ll definitely be more relaxed and more self-confident on stage and in public. Still, if you need 100% focused and individual advice about public speaking or acting, you should book our 1:1 acting training programs. Our introductory course is certainly a very good first step to improve your performative skills.
A few days after the workshop, you’ll receive a copy of the filmed monologue we played at the workshop to use for your acting reel or website or social media, as well as two professional headshots to use in your portfolio.
Most of the times YES, if you are a teenager. But your parent or
guardian MUST get in contact with us before and inform us of your
willingness to join. We might ask you to sign an agreement form. In
general, our classes are meant for adults, 18+ years old.
