Instant Theatre Berlin’s First Steps in Acting course is starting again in September 2026 for its 35th EDITION! Come join our ever-growing community of acting enthusiasts in Berlin who every year take this class in order to explore the basics of acting for the stage: in our hands-on acting courses, we’ll learn how to get into the right creative mindset for acting, how to play different roles and characters, and we’ll play on stage in front of the public in our final performance… Most of all, we’ll discover how to be good actors on stage, how to be confident and communicate powerful emotions…and you can learn this too!
Teaching style
Our acting exercises and techniques are constantly updated, and our sessions are designed specifically for each new group, but our original idea is always at the core of it: EVERYONE CAN ACT, because ACTING IS A NATURAL ABILITY that we all have! The class is designed for complete beginners and people with little previous experience (i.e. participation in school plays). Please be sure to read the Frequently Asked Questions before joining!

First Steps in Acting 2026 - SOLD OUT!
ALL ABOUT OUR ACTING COURSE
At the beginning of our acting class, we’ll focus on simple techniques and games to get to know each other. We’ll unlock our spontaneity, self-expression, creativity and we’ll learn techniques to use our imagination on stage. We’ll play short scenes and scripts to find out more about our personalities, our “stage persona” and the group, in order to get to know each other and get the right level of comfort to work together. At our acting class you can expect to be acting on stage from Day 1, and you are guaranteed to enjoy the experience! Later in the course, we’ll start working on longer scenes, and the final part of the project will see us on stage, playing our scenes in the final show in front of the audience! The First Steps in Acting course is very practical, dynamic and hands-on, and at the class we’ll focus on scripted material from early on, in order to start playing around with different roles on stage right away.
The activities covered by this course also include group and awareness exercises, exercises to develop self-expression and the expression of feelings and emotions, the basics of stage language and stage movement, scene creation, exercises on spontaneity and interactions, as well as basic character building. Our groups are made of internationals (18+) from all over the world. The classes are entirely in English and take place at the rehearsal rooms of Theatre Pool in Berlin Friedrichshain, Germany.
MAIN TRAINER
Alex Casadio, theatre instructor and founder of Instant Theatre Berlin. He’s active as an acting trainer, theatre director and performer in the Berlin scene. Alex founded Instant Theatre Berlin in 2013 and co-founded the venue 800A Berlin in 2017. In Berlin he also created the independent troupe The Actors Circle in 2019.

YES. This program is specifically designed for all beginners and for people from other artistic disciplines who would like to get to know the basics of acting.
YES. A big part of our initial work is focused on allowing you to get rid of your expressive blocks. We’ll work around the personal difficulties that we all have, so you’re definitely welcome to join and you’ll be in for a good experience. Our classes are extremely supportive and you’ll have all the group on your side at all times. In the video below I explained more about this topic, please watch it before joining!
We encourage every participant to start from our First Steps in Acting course, in order to get familiar with our style and methods. Feel free to drop us a line if you have some previous experience, as sometimes there might be last-minute spots in Level 2 courses, but very often you’ll be redirected to this course. And this course can be a good match for you in any case, as its contents can be tailored to your level. Please use the CONTACT FORM.
NO. The program is only 8-week long, hence we need to use our time from the very beginning for our program. If you are not sure about joining, you can navigate our website to watch some TESTIMONIALS and get more info about what we do, or watch videos on our YOUTUBE CHANNEL! You can also come by at our venue in Berlin Wedding and see some of our shows. In short: we’ll bring the quality and the expertise, but you will have bring the commitment from the start to the end of the project.
YES. If you’re able to read the contents on this page, then your English will be good enough to join. Our participants come from all over the world and it’s not unusual for us in a group of 10 people to have 8-9 different nationalities (and accents) on board. It’s part of the nature of what we do, and we are proud of that!
YES. Acting addresses many of these aspects naturally and in a creative way, so at the end of the course you’ll definitely be more relaxed and more self-confident on stage and in public. Still, if you need 100% focused and individual advice about public speaking or acting, you should book our 1:1 acting training programs. Our introductory course is certainly a very good first step to improve your performative skills.
After the last session of our course, we’ll host a public presentation of our work to a selected audience of friends and families. This will give you the opportunity to shine on stage and to put yourself to the test in a public performance. Afterwards, you can communicate with the teacher to see if you’re eligible for follow-up intermediate acting courses!
Most of the times YES, if you are a teenager. But your parent or
guardian MUST get in contact with us before and inform us of your
willingness to join. We might ask you to sign an agreement form. In
general, our classes are meant for adults, 18+ years old.
8 Weekly meetings + Final performance
Project duration: 8 weeks, 1 weekly meeting of 2,5 hours and a final public show in Berlin Friedrichshain!
EVERY SATURDAY, from September 19 To November 8 2026. Sessions time: 3 PM – 5.30 PM.
Final performance: Sunday November 8 at 2pm. The show will happen at the performance venue Theatre Pool in Berlin.
