About the course

Instant Theatre Berlin’s Acting Level 2 is an intermediate acting class that focuses on refining acting technique. It is the natural prosecution of our First Steps in Acting programs, and it is usually reserved to our students from previous courses. In this class we’ll focus on discovering more of the nature of each actor, we’ll expand on the range of characters each actor can play, and we’ll start working on making each stage interaction realistic and natural.

Instant Theatre Berlin presents Acting Level 2 – Intermediate acting course. This class is the ideal follow-up of our First Steps in Acting courses, and it builds and expands on the foundation of what you learned in our introductory acting program. The general purpose of this acting class is making each actor more confident and more original on stage. Compatibly with our schedule, we will also actively fix common acting mistakes by giving appropriate and personalised feedback! Each class is created differently depending on the level of the participants and on the composition of the group.

At the beginning, we’ll need to get to know each other through games, exercises and scenes. Students are often asked to prepare a monologue for the first lesson, as monologues can be part of our program and final presentation as well. Later in the course we’ll start practicing more complex scenes from plays (or one-act plays, or even movies) and at the end we present a final show including some of the materials we studied in the class. We’ll use scenes and scripted material for our exercises, albeit spontaneity and expansions through improvisation are also covered in this course. In joining this course you will expand on the basics of stage language, and you will become a better performer with a stronger stage presence, as you’ll become able to make clear and original choices in your acting.

This course is ideal for people who:

  • Want to build up on their previous acting experiences
  • Want to improve as actors, becoming more original and more realistic
  • Want to refine the basics of acting in an inspiring and supportive atmosphere
  • Want to explore their performative side and challenge themselves positively
  • Want to perform on stage in English in Berlin and be part of an international group of actors from all over the world

Become a better actor, able to make STRONG and ORIGINAL CHOICES on stage!

Frequently Asked Questions about the course

I have some previous acting experience outside of Instant Theatre Berlin, can I join?
The best thing for you is to get in contact and tell us about your previous experience. Usually this course is reserved to our students, but we can reach out in special cases or if some last-minute slots become available. Please use the Contact form.

I have absolutely no experience, can I still join this course?
That would not be ideal. Please have a look at our Introductory First Steps in Acting programs.

I took the First Steps in Acting course a while ago, I’m still a bit nervous on stage, can I join?
Generally YES, feel free to get in touch so we can re-assess things with you personally and put you with the appropriate group. As you know, our classes are extremely supportive and you’ll have all the group on your side at all times. Check our video tutorials on Youtube for fresh info about these topics!

Are there any trial classes for this course?
No. The program is only 8-week long, hence we need to use our time from the very beginning for our program. If you are not sure about joining, you can navigate our website to watch some TESTIMONIALS and get more info about what we do, or watch videos on our YOUTUBE CHANNEL! You can also show up at our venue in Berlin Wedding and see some of our shows. In short: we’ll bring the quality and the expertise, but you will have bring the commitment from the start to the end of the project.

My English is not so good, can I still join?
YES generally, as long as you have acting experience from your home country. If you’re able to read the contents on this page, then your English will be good enough to join. Our participants come from all over the world and it’s not unusual for us in a group of 10 people to have 8-9 different nationalities (and accents) on board. It’s part of the nature of what we do, and we are proud of that!

I’m joining for professional reasons to work on public speaking, presentation skills and so on, is this course a good choice for me?
This class requires previous ACTING experience. If you need 100% focused and individual advice about public speaking or acting on camera, you should book our 1:1 acting training programs. Our introductory course is certainly a very good first step to improve your performative skills.

What if there’s a new lockdown and we cannot complete the live course?
If there will be future restrictions to our activities we’ll evaluate where we are in the course. If we’re only missing a few sessions and the show, we can consider to wait and complete the course as soon as it’s allowed. Otherwise a partial refund of the fee will be possible.

What happens at the end of the acting classes?
After the last session of our course, we’ll present a public presentation of our work to a selected audience. This will give you the opportunity to shine on stage and to put yourself to the test in a new public performance. Afterwards, you can communicate with the teacher to see if you’re eligible for follow-up acting courses!

What else should I consider before registering?
The most important aspect for you is to make sure that you can attend most of the sessions. If you miss one or two classes it will be fine, but missing more might limit what you learn from the course and might affect the preparation of the whole group, so please check your schedule and make sure you can attend the classes as well as the final show.
